hi,
i am looking for material about kg26. nothing to be found in the bama, but maybe in the nara?! i had a look into the online-catalogue, but did not even manage to find the ktb of the bordfliegergruppe (as shown in a former thread here on toch). can someone help me?

It seems to me that your questions have been adequately answered, including the one concerning the Kriegstagebücher und Anlagen des Bordfliegergruppe 196.

thank you for you reply. but after i´ve seen what appeared in the nara searchlist, i wihed that there could be alos somtething found about the gruppen of kg26! nothing more to worry about. and i also expected to get to know, how to find material online in the nara catalogue, because i haven´t found anything there.

The NARA microfilms of Luftwaffe documents are simply microfilms of the records currently archived at BA-MA in Freiburg, with the exception of the old T-1033 Luftgau enemy aircraft investigatory collection. In sum, if it's not at BA-MA, it's not at NARA WashDC. As already mentioned, very little of the Luftwaffe's records survived the war, which you can read about in this link: http://www.lwag.org/reference/fla001.pdf .


There are no other records of KG 26. Presumably, Rudi Schmidt had a collection of unofficial postwar veteran's memoirs, preserved letters home from Geschwader personnel and a collection of photocopied Flugbücher to use as resources when he wrote the KG 26 book nearly 20 years ago, but Rudi died in February 2000 so you cannot contact him.

While we appreciate your persistence, Mr. Norton, I can assure you that we have given you our best advice and your further pursuit of KG 26 documentation is illusory.

very kind of you, thanks again for your reply. i already had contacted the familiy of rudi schmidt. you might not know, that they have thrown away all material he had collected. so my hope was, that there could have been other sources. i hope i can ask you boring question in the future.

No, I had not known. But it does not surprise me since that would be typical of what grandchildren, nieces and nephews do with the memorabilia of World War II veterans - 99% is either sold or tossed. So much for history.
