Two Ju-188 losses help request.

Gentleman,

Who can help with the following info: Two Ju-188, w.n. 0222 and 290265 fell victims of fighter interceptions on the Eastern front. First on September 6, 1944, second on September 17, 1944. Any info on crews and units, these two planes belonged to, will be appreciated.

TIA

Re: Two Ju-188 losses help request.

Remi,

This comes from Soviet documents. Crash sites of these two planes were examined, with photos attached. W.ns as usuall clearly seen on the fins. Unfortunately, I can not provide photos right now since there is rather time-consuming process to get photocopy in TsAMO.
Exept w.n. non unit markings or identification codes are seen...
Crew of the second plane (w.n. 290265) evaded capture, at least for the several hours after being shot down.

Regards,
Nikita

Sorry, 4./11 (based in Chodakow, Poland) was meant... however the chronicle of the unit does not mention Ju 188 D/F losses in Sept-1944, closest one is 20-Aug-1944 when Ju 188 was s/d by soviet fighters near Lublin with crew taken POW.

regards,
Pawel

Re: Two Ju-188 losses help request.

Ok. Here are my two pennies on this topic: Ju 188 W.Nr. 0222 (as last four) were carried by a D-2, A-2, E-1 and F-1 respectively. The E-1 260222 has known fate (England). I do not know faste of D-2 150222, 160222 or 280222. Hope someone else can eliminate the two others... My feeling is that it was the D-2 (Recce) 150222 downed on September 6, 1944.

Thank you Pawel and Ed!

However, thanks to damn absence of GQ returns for 1944 the issue seems to remain unsolvable...

4.(F)/121 lost two Ju 188D-2 "due to enemy" in September 1944. Nothing more known.
