Need history of Ju88A W.Nr. 4228 of 7./KG76

Hello,

Can anyone provide any history on Ju88A W.Nr. 4228, including the subtype and the approximate period when it was manufactured?

Thanx,

A-5 4228 delivered about Nov.-Dec 40. Known with II/KG 30 in May 41.

Ed, thanks. It looks like this slips under the wire for the EOE Project. The W.Nr. came from a photo showing a bomb being loaded aboard a 7./KG76 Ju88A-5, so it either served in that unit before or after its service with II./KG30. The paint job looks very fresh, but it doesn't have any black night camouflage you would expect if this were participating on the night Blitz on Britain. Probably Russian Campaign.

Ed, or anyone else, can someone tell me when III./KG76 re-equipped from the Do17Z to the Ju88A? I still see that they were flying Do17s at the end of October, 1940.

Thanx for the help,

Re: Need history of Ju88A W.Nr. 4228 of 7./KG76

The II Gruppen had the new Ju 88 A-1 at Creil under Luftflotte 2, Fliegerkorps I on 13.08.1940 (Battle of Britain). It finally had three Gruppen fully equipped in April 1941 under Luftflotte 3. There was also A-14 144228. You can send smaller copy of pic to me via regular e-mail, to see if it is the correct one. Seems period for this one might slip into 1941 (or later).

The acceptance flight of the W-Nr. 4228 was on 10th November 1940 at Perleberg. In January 1941 the aircraft was in the Junkers-GL-Werft at Reims for front preparation (as 4D+HM, see attached FB).

According to the GQM loss lists the 4228 was in May 1943 in service with 1.(F)/22.

Peter

Peter/Ed,

Peter: please contact me on the Personal message board. I'd like the info on whose FB this info is cited from.

Ed, I'll sent you a copy of the photo. I think that I have your email address.

Thanx for the help.

Regards,

Have two instances for this machine:

Ju 88A-5, 4228, n.n., , II., KG 30, , , BI+RJ, , 02-May-41, Undercarriage damage., , Lfl.5/Norwegen, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #3)-Vol.5; Foreman, 1941-The Turning Point, II, p.133, Medcalf, Stavanger-Sola, 40%, F, , , Dornier Flzg.Werke Wismar in Nov-40.
Ju 88A-5, 4228, n.n., , 1.(F), 22, , , BI+RJ, , 08-May-43, Pilot error., , Finnland, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #10)-Vol.17; Valtonen, LW Pohjoinen Sivusta, p.384, Medcalf, Fl.Pl. Petsamo, 40%, H, , , Dornier Flzg.Werke Wismar in Nov-40.

Re: Need history of Ju88A W.Nr. 4228 of 7./KG76

Jim,

I find the latter entry a bit odd. No A-5 was on unit 1.(F)/22 strength that month (see http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/aufkl/b1ag22.html )

Peter,

As you state that too, you have same source?

All,

Lively discussion, but suppose it was NOT A-5 4228 but A-5 4223 ?
(Image in question is not that clear, one can say 100% it is 4228)

Best regards
ed

Ed, still reviewing the losses (yet again!). May be a mistake on my part - I'll know soon enough since all I have left is 1943.
