Anthony Wilcock aircraft : P51 or Spitfire ?

on 6 Aug 1943, A.J. Wilcock was killed during a straffing over Morlaix train station. He was 25 and is now buried in Guidel, South Brittany.

I would like to know wether he was piloting a P51 (then A36, one of the first mustangs ?) or a spitfire.

I have here in Brittany a witness (now 82) who saw the whole action, found the body of the pilot, and has been wondering for years the type of aircraft he was then flying.

Thanks for feedback.

Mustang AP189 of 169 Sqn hit by flak near Morlaix and failed to return, 6.8.43

BTW it was F/O Anthony John Willcock (not Wilcock)

One A-36A was supplied to the RAF in March of 1943 for experimental purposes. Its RAF serial number was EW998.

AP189 was a Mustang I.

Thanks for the info, this witness was very moved to learn this data : he had been looking for it for years.

This witness also told me that A.Willcock had a 6 month old baby when he was killed : do you believe I could trace if he is still alive, and where ?

Thanks .
