He 59D W.Nr. 1522 was registered D-AHIK up to august/september 1940 when it was given Stammkennzeichen DS+KA. The plane suffered a 100% accident off Hungerburg while on a training flight on 08.09.43, serving then with 4. Seenotstaffel at Norderney. The crew of 5 were all killed.

Hello!

Very interesting info. Is this Hungerburg the same Hungerburg which is located on the Estonian-Russian border? Estonian Narva-Jõesuu literally means "the mouth of river Narva". If yes the plane may have been in detachment Seenot command at Kunda Bay. Don't remember the unit offhand.

Cheers,
Kari

Thank you very much, Seeplanes, for your reply. But do you know the unit of this He 59 in August-September 1940 ? My hypothesis is Seenotflugkommando 1 (not Seenotflugkommando 4, renamed Seenotstaffel 4 ), but I'm not sure ...

Bonjour Rémi,

In 1943, the unit of this He 59 was probably Seenotstaffel 4, based Nordeney (Nordsee), but in August-September 1940, probably not ...

Amicalement

Pierre
