Can anyone supply a copy of the NVM for Heidenpeter of 4./JG26 shot down on May 17, 1940?
Hello,
The EOE Working Group is trying to confirm the identity of photos of the a/c of Ofw Heinz Heidenpeter, of 4./JG26, who we believe was shot down outside Vitry-en-Artois, west of Douai (France), on either May 17th or May 18th of 1940, and made a POW. Two sources say May 17th (which we think is correct) and another reports May 18th. He is also reported to have bailed out, which would have resulted in a completely wrecked a/c, negating our suspicion that this is the well known "White 3" WNr.779. It looks like we're going to need a copy of the NVM on this one, which we don't have. Does anyone have a copy that they could supply?
Does anyone have any hard evidence for the date and pilot for the loss of W.Nr.779 if it isn't Heidenpeter's plane? It isn't Roth on June 3rd, as he went down 40 kms from Paris, and outside the range of the mining activity area through part of southern Belgium and N. France. There is a huge mine tailings pile (like a pyramid) in the background of one of our photos of "White 3," so this plane has to be down in the S. Belgium/N. France area, probably sometime in May. Does anyone have any further insight into the date and pilot's ID on this one?
We're almost sure that Ebbighausen, who went down on May 19th, was flying "White 8." So who was flying "White 3?" Is this the result of an action where there was no pilot casualty, and he returned unreported safely to German lines?
Any other info out there.
Regards,
Thanks,
