USAAF airman PoW on RAF bomber
Bomber Command Losses Vol.5 (1944) page 147 (Chorley):
Lancaster III - 57 Sqn - ND622 - Sgt W.E. STEEPER - USAAF - PoW Footprints on the Sands of Time - page 410: STEEPER WE USA 57 Sqn ND622 Lancaster 30/3/44 Nuremberg PoW Register (PoW Naval and Air Forces of GB and the Empire): STEEPER WEA (American) Sgt 1060195 Servicenumber 1060195 as mentioned in the PoW-Register is incomplete and may have been: 10601595 (8 figures instead of 7). STEEPER can't be found on the US Enlistment List, however the ADD Form (Access to Archival Database) gives for 10601595:T/Sgt Herbert R. STOREY (from Indiana) - enlisted as a T/Sgt 17-12-1943 into the Air Corps. Is it possible that STEEPER was an alias for STOREY ? Who has access to the Form 1180 for the bombaimer's name. Regards and thanks for your help. Henk. |
