Swiss MS406s in action
Hi guys
I am aware that Swiss Bf109s saw much action during WWII, but how did the Swiss version of the MS406 get on? Did they make any interceptions and were they involved in combat? Cheers Brian |

Re: Swiss MS406s in action
I believe it was Moranes which intercepted NS993 of 515 Sqn as it attempted to return "on one" via a shortcut over Swiss territory. It was obliged to land at Dubendorf and later flew for the Swiss airforce.

Re: Swiss MS406s in action
Thanks Mark
I've been perusing my notes and have these following incidents recorded. I wonder (and hope) something more may be forthcoming. Do we have any Swiss members? 1 January 1944: Fiat RS14 floatplane (MM35750 in German markings R+D and German crew) shot down by Swiss MS406s. Unidentified crew killed. 5 February: Do215 (?) shot down by Swiss MS406s - crashed north of Ramsen. Unidentified and fate of crew unknown. 18 March 1944: B-24 (either Sack Artist of 67BS or Late Date II of 577BS) shot down by Swiss fighters. 13 April 1944: B-24 (Old Crow of 709thBS) shot down by Swiss fighters after crew had baled out. 24 April 1944: B-17 (42-102446) shot down by Swiss MS406 flown by Lt Fritz Kolb. 6 June 1944: Ju52 (3021) shot down by Swiss MS406. Unidentified unit. Five crew/passengers killed. 20 July 1944: B-24 (42-78197) shot down by Swiss Bf109 after crew had baled out. 5 September 1944: P-51s flown by Lts Erickson and Ostrow of 503rdFS claimed two Swiss Bf109s - Oblt Paul Treu killed, No.2 bellied. 10 September 1944: Lt Hobson 359FS shot down Swiss C-3603 15 October 1944: P-47 (42-26062) Lt Conlan damaged by two Swiss MS406s and bellied (killed?) 27 February 1945: B-17 (44-8248) and B-24 (42-51903) shot down by Swiss fighters. I believe two of the above may have been claimed by Lt Walo Hoenning and Lt Albert Ahl (dates unknown). Cheers Brian |

Quote:
I have no trace in memories of "Sack Artists" crew that their a/c was shoot down or even escorted by Swiss fighters. The plane just caught a fire above target and exploded at low altitude when all crew members baled out over Switzerland. Try to get MACR 3407 about that case. |
