Shot down over France - June 8th 1944
Hello from Canada,
I'd appreciate replies from anyone that has any information/reference material as to the likely German Unit/pilot (?) that might've been responsible for shooting down my fathers aircraft. On June 7th 1944 he was an Air Gunner on a Halifax bomber with 432 SQN (RCAF) when they went on an operation to Acheres France. In the early morning of June 8th they were shot down near Bauvais France. I understand that there was quite a sizable Luftwaffe base in the area. Apparently there was a twin-engine fighter seen on their tail just before they were shot down. I'd like to find out more about the events of that night. Thank you |

![]() Hello ,
I think your father Sgt H.E Beauchesne and his crew , Halifax LW582 422 Sq were claimed by Franz Brinkhaus 6/NJG2 . I've been studying some crashes that night and it seems that Lancaster LL643 , Halifax NA505 , Halifax LW582 and were his victims west Beauvais. It matches with map locations QD , RD , TD and SD. Do you have your father's account or other documentation ( pictures , log book , escape report... ) which could be of some interest for my own research here ? I'll be very grateful. Zorglub |

Re: Shot down over France - June 8th 1944
It was 432 Squadron, not 422, as I think Beauch would know his fathers Squadron..
F/O C.R.Hoffman RCAF initially evaded but was captured in Paris on 3rd August. He may have been one of the many aircrew betrayed by Prosper de Zitter, himself a Canadian, and who was executed after the War. Apart from aircrew, obviously many resistance and Escape Line helpers were also rounded up, many dying in awful circumstances. |
