Help in Identifying these ME109

This picture is a scan of the original, its is Pre 1942 because the soldier that took it was KIA/MIA in early 1942 in russia.

Re: Help in Identifying these ME109

Hi,

your photo was taken at Philippeville in May 1940. It shows two Bf109Es from 2./JG3, which most likely crashed during on night landing (ca.22.00 hrs) on 21.05.40. Fi 156 was from stI./JG77 and it crashed on landing on 19.5.40. In the background there is a Bf110 M8+DM (probably lost on 17.5.40).
Perhaps you could zoom out this Fi 156? I would like to know its marking code.

Regards

Robert

The codes for the links provided by Falcon were undoubtedly black and not red.

Re: Help in Identifying these ME109

Hello,
Very interesting photo, some friends and me are collecting evidences for an exposition here in Philippeville, The farm in the background is named "ferme de beauregard" located on the field of "Vachefontaine" there is another farm on the other side of the road wich is named "ferme de Vachefontaine". We still are searching for photos and souvenirs to make our expo the most complete and accurate as possible.

Re: Help in Identifying these ME109

Hi Robert,
What we know for this time is the Vachefontaine Feldflugzeugplatz was used from 05/17/'40 to 05/23/'40 by I/JG3 and II/JG3.
Take off and landing were hazardous because of the rocks just behind the grass, we are on the first steps of the Ardennes.
We know that the pilots were dispatched in some farms in the vicinity.
A Ju-52 had landed here butfell on a ditch at the end of the runway, she stayed there for a while.
For my own part, I was very interested by the carrer of Günther Lützow (or Von Lützow) and knowing that he has spent lot of time very near my home is very exiting for me.
