Dornier 217 lost 12.8.42.
Hi can anybody help confirm the identity of a Dornier 217 severely damaged on 12.8.42.
All i have is the pilots name, Lt Fahrefellner. Ive scanned Ulf Balke's " Der Luftkrieg In Europa" KG2 book, but it appears to be possibly another unit? Any help appreciated. Best regs, Steve. |

Re: Dornier 217 lost 12.8.42.
Steve, all I could find in the QM's returns for the 12-8-42 apart from KG2 were 1/ Do217E4 5437 of II/KG40 10% damage in crashlanding at Fl.Pl Schipol due to engine trouble. 2/ Do217E-4 of II/KG40 15% by Fl.Pl. Soesterberg following fighter attack. IV/KG2 had a Do217E-4 45% damaged at Achmer on the 13th. None of these three losses mention any crew so I assume all were unharmed,

Re: Dornier 217 lost 12.8.42.
Hi Brian many thanks for replying so soon.
The photo shows extensive damage to the nose, be it totally destroyed! the port engine appears to have been ripped out of its mountings also. It would appear that this a/c had been involved in a collision, other than that i have no further information. Best regs, Steve. |
