Yes, and the style of numbers shape is also very similar to this unit in late 1940.

Re: Photos 8-1-05
Greetings,
Lending credence (but not without controversy) to the idea that this is Eberhard von Boremski, is the caption, which translates "Birthday and first victory." Von Boremski's was born on 24.9.14, and his 3rd victory (his first during the Battle of Britain) was on 24.9.40. As this was his 3rd not 1st victory, that does raise some questions, but I think that overall the caption lends weight to the idea that this is probably him. Note also that this may not have been his regular a/c, as he had been with the unit since at least May, 1940, and an earlier "Yellow 12" was lost by the Staffel when Uffz. Wilhelm Kaiser crash-landed one in England on 24.8.40. Obviously Kaiser could have been flying von Boremski's regular a/c that day, or vB could have switched to a newer replacement "Yellow 12" a/c after that happened. On the date of the photo, probably 24.9.40, he could have also been flying another aircraft other than his own. An excellent photo, nevertheless. Good work Don P. and Robert S. Cheers, Larry Hickey |

Re: Photos 8-1-05
Can someone comment on what appears to be a white 8 to the left of the 12?

The "8", Is The First Letter "s" Of The Four Letters Called In German Language Stammkennzeichnung, painted On The "rumpf" On All German Planes In This Photo: S?+??. The Light Blue (rlm 65 Or Rlm 76) Paint Was Used For Delete This Code When The Plane Was On Duty In The Jagdgeschwader. Sorry For My Poor English, I Hope All The Friend Understand My Think. Re: Photos 8-1-05
Since von Boremski was involved with Rumanian pilots in the Spring of 1943, I have an interest in him.
From what I see on the enclosed photo, the pilot shown does not look like him. Just my opinion, though.

Re: Photos 8-1-05-First Luftwaffe Captured Spitfire I
The picture of ZD*A,P9317, ex-222 Sq.,captured June 1,1940 is a great picture of first captured flyable Spitfire. This plane was flown by PO H.E.L. Falkhurst who landed this plane on June 1,1940 during the battle of Dunkirk.
It was probably later tested at Rechlin under the code 2+1. According to Alfred Price, the Luftwaffe had captured four flyable or repairable Spitfires by the beginning of the Battle of Britain: Possible candidates: (1) Spitfire I , P9317, 222 Sq, captured 6-1-40. (2) Spitfire PRIB, P9331, 212 Sq, captured after fall of FRance (3) Spitfire I , K????, 54 Sq, captured May 23,1940 (4) so-called French Spitfire (1 export version of Spitfire I) captured in damaged condition after fall of France. |
