Blenheim Ops Sept 1939
Hello Everyone,
There was quite a lot of 'activity' for the Blenheim crews immediately war was declared, with elements of 107 sqn, 110 sqn and 139 sqn all involved in either recon or bombing missions against the German Fleet in Wilhelmshaven. There is plenty of documented history on these missions, with their effectiveness ultimately in question despite the amazing bravery and fortitude of the crews. In fact the greatest damage done was by a Blenheim actually crashing onto the Emden after being shot down.
Whilst I have read of attacks being made on the Admiral Von Scheer, Tirpitz and Emden I have yet to see anything regarding the Bismark, which would have been in the advanced stages of fitting out at the Blohm and Voss Shipyards at Hamburg. Is there any record of the Bismark being the subject of either recon or bombing missions by Blenheims in September 1939?, I am particularly interested in any 18 Sqn involvement.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ian
