Luftwaffe fighter-shot down on 5 April 1945 N of Hannover
Hi to all,
On the 5th of April 1945 a german single engine fighter (I do nor know the type) crashed near Stöckendrebber (Stoeckendrebber). This village is located 2 km SW of Schwarmstedt or 30 km N of Hannover. Are there victory credits for US- or RAF-fighters with relation to this area on this day ? (I have seen Pierre Clostermann (RAF) had two claims on this day in the vicinity of Dummer Lake. But this is to far away from the crash I'm looking for) Thank you. |

Re: Luftwaffe fighter-shot down on 5 April 1945 N of Hannover
Hello,
I think it was the 7th of April 45 and not the 5th. It was a Bf109 of Sonderkommando Elbe. Best wishes Rüdiger |

Why not the 5th? JG 26 and I./JG 27 were at least in this area.
Is there anything known about the fate of the pilot? Further, Ofw. Fritz Ungar of 14./JG 26 made a belly landing with his D-9 on the 6th near Hope. Regards Heuser |

Re: Luftwaffe fighter-shot down on 5 April 1945 N of Hannover
The pilots name is Walkhoff.
A man from Stoeckendrebber has documented the shot down and finding of this pilot on the 5th of April 1945. So far I have seen allied fighters were in the air that day over Germany. Concerning to other sources, Walkhoff was a member of Kommando Elbe and was shot two days later on the 7th. Thats why I am interested in the allied air victories for the 5th in the area mentioned above. |

Re: Luftwaffe fighter-shot down on 5 April 1945 N of Hannover
A just see Herbert Walkhoff is noted as shot down by P-51 april 7th near Stöckendrebber, bailed out and was killed in his chute - so where comes the date april 5th ?
