JG-54 casualties March 12,1942

On March 12,1942 Lt. Vasily Golubev 4GIAP, I-16, shot down two Bf-109Fs over his airfield. The wreckage of both Bf-109s was reported to be found, with one being Bf-109F-2, Wrk No. 8997, White "10" flown by Uffz Hans Schwartzkopf who died of his wounds.
In all my references is there is no mention of the other Bf-109F and its pilot. Any ideas?

In BC/Rs Vol2 there is this description: "...as Golubev shot down both Bf-109s,which crashed in the snow just outside the airfield. The German commander's aircraft was totally burnt out but on the rudder of the wingman's aircraft, the Soviets could count twenty six victory marks. The pilot, probably, Unteroffizier Hans Schwartzkopf bled to death from his wounds as he tried to escape from the Soviets."

Re: JG-54 casualties March 12,1942

Gunter Rosipal JG 54 loss list, Prien's book and the Luftwaffe loss reports all agree that JG 54 suffered only one loss for this day. Bf 109 F-2 WNr 8997 lost in air battle 10 km NW a place called "Schum" by Germans. Pilot Uffz Hans Schwartzkopf of 1./JG 54 MIA.

No other Bf 109, even of another unit, was lost or even damaged on the Eastern Front this day according to German reports.

As far as I know, Schwartzkopf scored no victory before his loss, but he may have flown an aircraft borrowed from one ace of the same Gruppe. Possibly Fw Herbert Brönnle of 2./JG 54 who had 25-26 victories at this date.

Laurent,

Thanks for the info. The account of Lt. Golubev is told in Black Cross/Red Star 2 and in the newly published "Polikarpov I-16, I-15 and I-153 Aces".
