Me 262 in Japan ?
Hi are there any records of Me 262 with the Imperial Japanese Airforce ?
http://www.flyingknights.net/ejspark/sparky10.htm http://www.flyingknights.net/ejspark...c/FirstJet.jpg "This captured jet was photographed at Atsugi in Japan and was the first ever seen by most men of the 9th. It is a German ME 262 A.1a with the words, "der Schwalbe" painted on the side." There seems to be the development of the "Nakajima Kikka - Orange Blossom" which is very simillar to the Me 262. http://www.ijnafphotos.com/jbwkikka1.htm Regards Sujoy |

Re: Me 262 in Japan ?
I doubt this Me 262B photo was taken in Atsugi. There's an P-80 in the background, and the people don't seem to be Japanese or US military men. I think it was taken in US on one of the publicity air shows. And that this Me 262 was taken from Germany, not from Japan.
Note, that there seem to be German markings on the fuselage, but non-standard, rather one of these fancy crosses painted over US markings post-war. As for the alternate Nakajima Kikka designations, there was an IJAAF version planned with designation Ki-201. Ki-202 was to be an Army version of Mitsubishi J8M Shusui. Never heard of Ki-262, thought. |

Re: Me 262 in Japan ?
@Skawinski & Pilot
This is no Me 262. Just compare the tail-unit, the opening-mechanism of the canopy and the jet-engine inlets. The three fuselages in the background are looking more like Nakajima Ki-49 bombers as P-80. On my opinion, this photo was well taken in Japan and shows a Kikka Orange Blossom. Best regards ! Re: Me 262 in Japan ?
@ Horst Weber
What I wrote above was about the photo in the link, not the one above (sorry if it wasn't clear). And in the link there is a photo of Me 262B. No doubt about it. As for the photo above - yes, it's Nakajima Kikka, and behind it you can see fuselages of three Nakajima G8N Renzan. As far as I can remember it is Koizumi plant, although I don't have my books with me, so I'm not sure. There are a lot of books about Kikka (from Monogram, Mushroom, Gakken, Miki Press etc.), and one airframe is in National Air and Space Museum, so it's by no means an obscure aircraft. As for Me 262 in Japan - as far as I can remeber there was no Me 262 in Japan. Dismantled Me 163 was indeed shipped (by submarine) to Japan, but never reached Japan. I've seen Me 262 in Japanese markings, but these were only fictional 3D drawings in Japanese magazines. |
