Rudel, Schlachtgeschwader 2 & Kitzingen

I am looking for details of the Ground Units of Schlachtgeschwader 2 which attempted to drive into Western Controlled territory between 5th and 8th May 1945. As is known, various air elements flew to Kitzingen air field where they surrendered to 405th Fighter Group. But it is the ground convoy I am seeking info on. Specifically an Oberfeldwebel Herbert Fuchs. Fuchs died on 7th May, having been shot in the head on 5th - presumably in this convoy. Any info gratefully received.

Many thanks

Phil

Re: Rudel, Schlachtgeschwader 2 & Kitzingen

All of German units in Bohemia and Moravia (in that time Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren) were ordered to go for West to the Americans during May 8 1945. According to Rudel´s Memories the Stab, II./SG 2 and 10.(Pz)/SG 2 moved that day from Hračany and Mimoň Area in direction to Western Bohemia (to go to South Germany, Bavaria as Rudel quoted was in that time impossible) where demarkation line between US Army and Red Army was. Behind that point US Army could not go because of agreements between Soviets and Americans. Because of Czech uprising, the way to West was really complicated. Almost all of the main roads were blocked by barricades, as well as town. According to Rudel, SG 2´s convoy was blocked and over-handed to Russian in Kladno, city some 20 kilometers west of Prague. Imprisoment of the convoy should take place during May 9 1945 (probably morning), because in this day first Red Army units come to Prague.

III./SG 2 was in that time located in Milovice Airfield, some 30 kilometers east of Prague. They moved on May 8 as well, probably together with rest of units from Milovice Military Base (Truppenübungsplatz Milowitz) under command of GenLt Kurt Rüdiger. They were blocked in two villages 20 kilometers south of Prague. This military conwoy is guilty in massacre of more then 38 local civil inhabitants because of road was blocked by barricades.

I have no further info.

Michal
