Crew of Ju 88 7A+KH

Hi to all,

Can anyone supply us with further information regarding the loss of Ju 88 (7A+KH) of Lt. Fund & crew who failed to return from a reconnaissance sortie on the 26.01.41?

Any help always greatly appreciated!

Melvin

Re: Crew of Ju 88 7A+KH

From the Gen.Qu. report, the code was reported as '7A+DH' and the WNr. as 0354 - the '88' prefix for older machines to make a 6-digit number doesn't generally show up in Gen.Qu. losses until mid-1943 and later. Which version is technically correct I don't know. I don't have the loss as reported by the WASt, but presume Mr. Salonen does. He's been doing this stuff longer than I have.

From
Christopher Shores and Brian Cull with Nicola Malizia Malta : The Hurricane Years, 1940-41.

26/1/41

Yet a further Ju88 was reported missing over Malta on 26th., this time from the reconnaissance unit 1(F)/121. This aicraft (7A + DH) flown by Lt Helmut Fund was intercepted by two Hurricanes at 1630 when flying at 10,000 feet, and had been chased all the way back to the coast of Sicily. When last seen the rear gunner had been silenced and smoke was issuing from the port engine, but shortage of fuel forced the fighters to turn away, obviously the attack had been more effective than the Hurricane pilots realized.

or

Same info quasi-verbatim.
