US aircraft scrapping in Germany 45-46
Hi
Just had a general question. I have seen photos of P51's being scrapped at Kaufbeuren airfield, Germany in the summer of 45. This must have happened elsewhere as well. A lot of the units were getting ready to continue the fight with Japan, but the aircraft were left behind. I was wondering whether the P47's of 404th at Fritzlar airfield were scrapped there or the same with other units. The N was being built for Japanese operations with further range. All the D's were obsolete? Can't find any reference to them being scrapped in Germany. Any thoughts? regards Mark
