443th FS Richmond air base, VA, 1943/44

hey all,

Do someone have an idea how the 443th FS insigna looked like?

That unit served as trainig squadron in 1943 for the P47 pilots.

Thanks for any possible help,

Mathias

Re: 443th FS Richmond air base, VA, 1943/44

According to Mauer Mauer (ed.), World War II Combat Squadrons of the United States Air Force, reprint ed., New York: Smithmark, 1992, pp.548-49:

443d Fighter Squadron
Activated 24 Feb 1943
Richmond AFB, Va., 24 Feb 1943
Norfolk AAFld, Va., 16 Feb - 10 Apr 1944
P-40s (1943), P-47s (1943-44)
Disbanded 10 Apr 1944
Campaigns: None.
Decorations: None.
Emblem: None.

So, this official publication of the USAF Historical Division, Department of the Air Force, that originally appeared in 1969, states that there was no emblem for this squadron.

Thanks Larry for your usefull answer;

now the related questions stays opened " what is that insignia if not the one of the 443th FS?" (attachement given in following thread about an unknown insigna )

probably one fighter squadron flying the P47 in ETO in summer 1944 (before september). Pilot flew in the 358th FG after that date.

Thanks once more for your kind and quick help!

Mathias
