Unteroffizier Urban
Hi
I was hoping that somebody can confirm or deny my thoughts that Uffz of Zg1 is the same person as Fhr Karl Urban lost with 6./Jg4 on 12th February 1945. Grateful for any help Regards Johannes |

Re: Unteroffizier Urban
I have Karl Urban from 4./ZG 1, who crashed in Krasnodar on Dec 19, 1942 with Bf 110C-4, WNr. 3566 (Bruchlandung infolge schlechter Bodenverhältnisse. Bruch 80 %.). However, he was according to my notes Bordfunker. Pilot was Lt Egon Albrecht-Lemke.
Fhr Karl Urban lost on 12 Feb 1945 was born in 1925. Based on these facts, I believe, that those guys were two separate persons. Matti |

Re: Unteroffizier Urban
Matti,
Your final sentence may be incorrect. Gerhard Schlee, Bordfunker with Erpr. Gr. 210/SKG 210/ZG 1, was, at war's-end, training to be a single-seater fighter pilot, nominally attached to JG 27. So it is possible that a Bordfunker in 1942 could be a pilot in 1945.

Re: Unteroffizier Urban
It is possible that a Bordfunker in 1942 became a pilot in 1945, but the Karl Urban killed in 1945 was 17 years old in 1942 when the Karl Urban of ZG 1 survived a crash. That means he started his Luftwaffe training at 16, that is probably too young for this stage of war.

Re: Unteroffizier Urban
Thanks Guys
But still inconclusive, though the Uffz Urdan I have made his claim against a Mustang on 29th May 1944 with 6./ZG1, considering his rank and the type of aircraft he claimed there is no reason why he sould'nt be a bordfunker, and looks increasingly like he was! Though if so probably not Albrecht's as he was with the Staff of II./ZG1 at the time. Regards Johannes |

Re: Unteroffizier Urban
Obviously I was not clear enough. My point was, that Fhr Karl Urban, who was born in June 19, 1925, was in December 1942 too young to be an active Bordfunker and Uffz. If we assume at least one year military training before entering an operational unit, he should have been starting his career as 16 years old, which for me seems not possible in 1941/42.
