Do 217 K-2 W.Nr. 4547 St.Kz. SF+XU
Hello,
Do 217 K-2 W.Nr. 4547 St.Kz. SF+XU appears on a document of KG 100. It may have been equipped with the Fritz X or Hs 293. Does anybody know more about this aircraft (crew? loss?). Thank you! Roger |

I have a note that this one was found by Technical Intelligence teams at Foggia, Italy:
Do 217K 4547 6N+HT 24,50m. span. |

Re: Do 217 K-2 W.Nr. 4547 St.Kz. SF+XU
Thank you very much. +HT would indicate 9. Staffel if I am not mistaken. 9. Staffel was part of III./KG 100. Part of it were based at Foggia from July to November 1943 (according to http://www.ww2.dk/air/kampf/kg100.htm). So, that would perfectly make sense. Does the report mention if it was found intact or only the remains of the aircraft?
In another thread you stated that +HT, which was found at Foggia, was W.Nr. 4517. Was it a typing error?: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...6&highlight=6N The document also mentions Oblt. Meier. Is there anything known about him (most likely a member of III./KG 100, maybe in 1943 not yet an Oblt). Thanks! |

(b) I looked at the earlier thread and it wasn't me that gave 4517 as the Werk Nummer of this aircraft! I've attached an extract from National Archives AIR40/2159 showing the Do 217's found at "Foggia No. 2" as the Allies called the airfield. |

Re: Do 217 K-2 W.Nr. 4547 St.Kz. SF+XU
Hi Nick,
Thank you for confirming the Gruppe and W.Nr. and a big sorry about my confusion regarding the statement that it was 4517. I was reading through the threads and probably picked up your name somewhere and mistakenly related the statement to you. Thank you for the scan. Very interesting! Oblt. Meier flew W.Nr. 4547 once. So far I could not find any information about Oblt. Meier. I will try to find some more documents with information about him. Regards, Roger |

I found him, in ADI(K) report No. 344/1944 which concerns a III./KG 100 crew shot down on 4/5 July 1944. They carried a document which listed personnel engaged in a formation flight from Toulouse "some weeks ago" and this gave "Oberleutnant Meier (not Mayer as previously reported)" as the IA of III./KG 100.

Thank you very much. That is very interesting. I´ll try to get a copy of Ulf Balke´s book about KG 100 to see whether the IA of III./KG 100 is mentioned. Oblt. Meier was originally an observer, but got his pilot´s licence sometimes at the beginning of 1944.
