Re: F/O A.L.Fowler KIFA 23-8-1941
The A L Fowler killed on 23rd August 1941 was RNZAF and died in the crash of No.413 Sqn Catalina AH556.
Took off for night flying practice, captained by Pilot Ensign Eldred, USN, but swung, left the water and crashed a few seconds later with full power on before catching fire. Two of the crew survived, injured, but the other five died, including the 2nd pilot, whose body was later recovered and is buried at Stranraer. Investigation revealed that the elevator trim had been set in the fully nose down position, a recommendation being made that illumination of this control should be provided in future for night operations. All rest locally in the Glebe Cemetery, Stranraer, Wigtownshire. Detail from my RAF Coastal Command Losses, Vol 1 Regards Ross |

Re: F/O A.L.Fowler KIFA 23-8-1941
Ross, thanks for that I assume this is the same man as the P/O A.L.Fowler of 248 Sqd. as in Andy Birds thread on the Luft. site about the Do215 engaged off Sumburgh on 3-10-40. On several sites referring to 248 Sqd it shows Fowler as lost in a flying accident on 23-8-41,
