8./JG 26 1943 request
Good morning all
Does anyone know if the following pilots from 8./Jg 26 are still alive, and if so how they might be contacted please. Ofw. Max Martin and Ofw Hans Heitmann My interest is in Uffz. Heinrich (Heinz) Walter who was shot down on 28th January 1943 by Eddie Musgrave of 137 Squadron RAF. I'm hoping to find out who flew with Walter that day and any details re the combat that took place. Thank you all in advance (although I think my request is a long-shot!) Paul PS I would be most interested if anyone has any pictures of 8./JG 26 from around this time that they would be willing to share. Last edited by pfP7063; 6th April 2012 at 08:27. Reason: adendum |

Just a gentle bump in case someone has some information that might help me to answer my original questions.
Thank you all in advance (as I keep my fingers crossed and hope!) Paul |

Re: 8./JG 26 1943 request
Max Martin was dead by the time that Don Caldwell wrote his JG 26 book in 1996. He doesn't list Heitmann. Your best bet is to PM Don but he has not been on 12 OCH for some time. The chance of finding out who was with Walter is minimal-this is rarely logged in Flugbuch and unless a war diary exists (and Don would know this), I know no other way of finding out.

Re: 8./JG 26 1943 request
Hi Chris
Thanks for the info - I think that I'll have to try and contact Don. Paul PS I'm still keeping an eye out for a photo of JJ Robinson of 263 Squadron for you, but haven't come across one yet. Given that he was only at the 263 for 8 weeks it's probably a long shot as well. Still, we never know what might turn up. |

Re: 8./JG 26 1943 request
You're quite right Chris - but there are some lovely gems of Whirlwinds and their pilots in his book that I hadn't seen before.
With Rob's book to compliment Niall's we've been very fortunate and well look after wrt the Whirlwind recently. I shall keep looking for you though. Paul |
