604 Sqn Mosquito claim ?
Hello,
Still matching X vs Y, I would like to know the claimer of the Ju 88 R-1 WNr.751140 of 2./NJG 4 (3 killed) shot down on the 22/06/44 at 21.00 in Rance (B) just after taking off from Florennes AB. Could you confirm it could be F/Lt P.V.G Sandeman (and his R/O F/O W. Coates?) of 604 Sqn on Mosquito MM552? There is no given location. I wish to gather some precision before to order it. Thank you for your attention. Best regards ClinA-78 |

Re: 604 Sqn Mosquito claim ?
604 Sqn was a defensive night fighter sqn as opposed to an intruder. Their victim that night was 2355 hrs 5 miles SSE of Ventnor, Isle of Wight so definitely not Florennes. 29 Sqn claimed a Ju 188 at 'Beaugency' (FS Benyon?)

Re: 604 Sqn Mosquito claim ?
Thank you Chris.
There is a Beaugency, roughly 25 km SW of Orléans thus perhaps matching the claim of 29 Sqn. There is absolutely no other claim made which could match (US/RAF, day/night), unless the claimer was lost too but find any. The combat was observed by Germans at the base, some minutes after take-off. Any hint? |
