message in a bottle : Friedrich Kißlinger (2/JG101)
On 31 Jan. 1944, Uffz Friedrich Kißlinger (2/JG101)was killed.
He was flying a Me109 E7 (5 red, Wnr 1572) in the North of Tarbes (South West of France) near the village of Oroix. By chance, would anybody have any information on him ? on his family ? Any other data ? Thanks in advance. GC |

Re: message in a bottle : Friedrich Kißlinger (2/JG101)
Concerning his plane WNr 1572 I have this:
Complete loss on 22th September 1941 over Perekop/USSR. Flown by Uffz Otto Riedl (killed?) from 3.(J)/LG 2. The date suggests the crash (or emergency landing?) area subsequently was taken by German troops, the plane being salvaged and afterwards being rebuilt to E-7 status. Unfortunately nothing about the Pilot Kißlinger, the name giving evidence of a southern Bavarian origin...(Freising, München evtl Ansbach) Regards Roland |

Re: message in a bottle : Friedrich Kißlinger (2/JG101)
Hello Guys,
The WASt report has Uffz Kißlinger killed in a Bf 109 E, Werknummer 1572, red 5, on 31.1.1944. This is quite fitting, as this a/c was also reported damaged 35% on 29.8.1942 at Vragenburg, belonging to Luftzeuggruppe Belgien/Nordfrankreich and again 35% on 5.3.1943 at Laleu, this time with JGr Ost. I have it last mentioned 28.12.1944 at Hagenow (Ultra HW 5/643). The loss of Uffz Riedel was reported with GQM like WNr 1572 and on 22.09.1941. This almost certainly is a typing error, as the incident is reported in WAST with Bf 109 E, Werknummer 5127. I have no other reports on this Werknummer. Such errors are quite common in GQM-returns. Riedels loss was reported at "Golf of Perekopskij" and his grave as "in der See" what makes me think, he crashed into open water and so the a/c ws a 100% loss. Also the date is given as 14.09.1941. HTH Carl

Excellent. Charles - for your list:
""Perekopskij" means "of Perekop". "Gulf of Perekop, Crimea" is meant. Regards Roland |

Re: message in a bottle : Friedrich Kißlinger (2/JG101)
the message in a bottle has received an answer:
I am now in contact with the nephew of Uffz Kißlinger; He has kept all personal belongings of his uncle, he has also his logbooks and pictures of him; He went to his uncle's grave in France several times and he was looking for the crash site of his uncle. I could not expect a better contact.. So, he will come to France with his sister, and we will go together to the exact place where his uncle lost his life; in his memory. That will be a nice subject for an article. a special thanks to Carl and to Lino who orientated well my search. Best regards Gilles |
