Lt. Kurt Kohlhagen, 1./NAGr. 2

Does anyone know how Lt. Kohlhagen died on the 25Mar45? I checked "Kracker" and it lists him as Knight's Cross holder with 24 victories and his date of death. I found his victim on the 05Jul44 at 59 238 (Tarnopol Obl., Chertkovskiy district, village of Zalesse [now Zalesie]). He had it listed as a R-5 (U-2 235 IAD of the 10 IAK) which was the Chief of Personnel of the division. Buried in a church garden at Zalesse was listed with his fate.

Re: Lt. Kurt Kohlhagen, 1./NAGr. 2

Hello Nokose,

Kurt Kohlhagen, *23.09.1922, is reported kia east of Wilmersdorf emergency-landung after being hit by AAA. His rank is reported like Oberleutnant. He flew a Bf109G10/R2 with Werknummer 770228 coded black 2.
Source is GQM-returns dated 27.3.1945.

Hans Ring lists him with 20 claims including 4 Il-2 and 15 R-5/U2s

Thank you Charles for the response. Didn't these reconn. Bf 109's fly solo during these missions. So besides the camera that they had for this obvious purpose. Did they carry a gun camera that recorded these results of their victories?

I don't know about the East but Bf 109 reconnaissances on the Western Front were normally flown in pairs (lots of ULTRA messages attest to that). The same seems to have been true of NAG 11 in Italy.

Thank you Nick. I don't know much about NAGr. units except finding something on occasion.

Charles

This topic has been up before, and then he was listed as being killed in white 12. Which is correct black 2 or white 12?

Hi Thomas,

Greta photo. Would it be possible to share it via email? My friend from Moravia knows more about Kohlhagens crash in 1945 and would like to add photo to the story.
Thanks

Peter
