Bernhard Jope KG 40

Can anybody please tell me the codes on the FW 200 Condor that Bernhard Jope flew when he attacked The Empress of Britain in October 1940 , thanks.

Re: Bernhard Jope KG 40

Schnellmeyer,

I've been watching this post with interest, as I, too, would like to know the answer to this question for color profiling purposes. From previous discussions of this the problem may be that there is no hard evidence for the answer to this question. I certainly hope someone will come forward with this information if they have it.

Regards,

Re: Bernhard Jope KG 40

Thanx "schnellmeyer,"

If you can document the markings on this a/c, we'll probably do a major painting of this incident for the EoE Project, and likely a color profile of his a/c. Good luck on the hunt!

Re: Bernhard Jope KG 40

Hi Larry , today I got two photos from Germany which shows Bernhard Jope returning after he bombed The Empress of Britain . The first photo shows the FW200 landing but it was taken from a distance so one cannot make out the codes . The other photo shows Jope with senior Luftwaffe officers standing in front of his FW200 Condor , again one cannot see the aircraft codes but the name " Serius" is clear to see on the nose of the plane .
All we need to do now is see what codes " Serius" carried and we have our plane , well I hope so anyway !

Re: Bernhard Jope KG 40

The AP photo archive arrived yesterday-there is quite a bit on Jope so I will look closer but I am not hopeful of answering this positively

Hi Marc , yes you are right . The name on the FW200 was spelt "Sirius" , sorry for that mistake .
