loss in (RAF) May/June 1940.
I just found this website. My father was George Parker. I am not sure what rank he was. P/O or F/O as he was about 19. He was shot down in 1940 over France. He spent the rest of the war in POW camp.
He passed away in 1966 whilst living in Zambia. |

Re: NO. 40 squadron (RAF) May/June 1940.
Chesboy,
Your post about your father did not seem relevant to the thread it was in, so I have created a new one and will delete your previous post. I think you may have a better chance of a response. |

Re: loss in (RAF) May/June 1940.
Hello,
According to the POW index on the RAFCommands website there are two Parkers with a G initial: G. Parker 42523 RAF J. A. G. Parker 81018 RAF (South Rhodesian) The London Gazette shows George as first name at the first possibility. According to 'Footprints on the Sands of Time' by Oliver Clutton-Brock this George Parker was member of 40 Squadron, captured 14 August 1940. Checking the 'Bomber Command Losses 1939-1940' by W. R. Chorley, George Parker was pilot of Blenheim R3609 which took off at 21.05 hrs from Wyton for targets near Chartres and somehow run into problems. His observer Sgt G. H. Easton and wireless operator Sgt E. Watson managed to escape. P/O Watson was captured and spent the war as prisoner 1250 at Stalag Luft 3 Sagan. Well, if this George Parker is indeed your dad I would love to be in contact with you as he carried out a specific mission in my geographical area of research in June 1940. Please contact me at hnautaATquicknetDOTnl. Replace AT and DOT for the obvious symbols. Kind regards, Hans |
