fighter loss 18th April 1944
Hello,
I found in our local archives that a RAF fighter was shot down during the night of April, 18th 1944 in the vicinity of Ly Fontaine . In the same night 2 Halifax collided during a bombing raid over Tergnier's marshalling yard. The last witness still alive told me that the pilot was found dead the morning in the village near the pond. The germans came and took the personal effect of the pilot, they told the pilot was Czech or Slovak. (nationality not sure) First I thought that he was a night-fighter pilot but I think that's not correct. I need to find the name of the pilot, the nationality, the squadron and with a lot of chance a picture... a stele will be unveiled with the names of the 15 airmen killed that night. Thanks for your assistance. Phil |
