Need help with photos of I./JG21 Stab a/c during 1939-40, espcially during the WC/FC.
Hello,
For the EoE Project, we're in the process of trying to finish ninety 5-view color profiles of the a/c of JG54 (and predecessor units I./JG21 and I./JG76) during the 1939-40 period. Over sixty are finished.
I badly need photo material to support profiles for the Stab of I./JG21 during the 1940 period, prior to the time it was renamed III./JG54 in July, 1940. Stab aircraft from I./JG21, and later III./JG54, were distinctive because during 1940 they carried white Stab markings, with thin black outlines, rather than the more traditional black with thin white outlines. Some a/c in I./JG27 and a couple of other units also did the same.
One good candidate, if I can find any relevant photos, would be the following incident:
"22 May 1940: Stab I./JG21 Messerschmitt Bf109E-3. Damaged by AA fire during attack on enemy armour and forced-landed at Abancourt, north of Cambrai, 9.00 a.m. FF Leutnant Siegfried Schmidt captured unhurt. Aircraft later recovered."
Does anyone have any photos that might relate to this incident or any other I./JG21 Gruppenstab a/c during the 1940 period. I'm well familiar with the a/c of Oblt Dress that FL in England on 12 August 1940 from the Stab of III./JG54, with white stab markings.
Can anyone help?
Regards,
Larry Hickey
