Seeking name of I./JG53 Gr Adj from May to Sept, 1940
Hello,
Am working on a profile packages for the Gr Adjutant for I./JG53 from May and June, 1940, and again in July, August, 1940. Can anyone provide me with that name (s) and service dates of the pilot (s) in that position during that period? Thanx, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Re: Seeking name of I./JG53 Gr Adj from May to Sept, 1940
Haase was with 3/JG 53 in Jun 40 and signing as Adj on 26 Aug 40 but must have taken over from Lippert at the start of Sep 40 only to be killed 15 Sep 40. Wittmeyer then took over but was injured 8 Sep 40. Lt Udo Padior was signing in May 41 and in Jun 41 Tonne was signing logbooks then. I believe that Wittmeyer returned as a non-flying Adj as he was signing NVMs in Dec 40 before going back to flying with Erg/JG 53.

Re: Seeking name of I./JG53 Gr Adj from May to Sept, 1940
Chris,
Thanx for your more detailed reply. I found a reference in "Brothers in Arms" to Haase being Adj of I./JG53 before he took over as Sta Kap of 3./JG53 from Lippert on 04.09.40. However, I note that Prien et al in JFV 4/II say that Oblt Julius Haase's previous assignment was 3./JG53, but I don't know if this is right in light of Haase signing unit records as Adjutant on 26 August 1940. Any idea how far back into the past his assignment as Adjutant extended? What's behind this is a new photo of the Adj a/c sitting derelict on a French AF either sometime during the WC or the early BoB. I'm hoping that if Haase was Gr Adj during the WC/FC someone has a record of that. The photo shows an a/c sitting on its wheels, but apparently abandoned probably on a French AF. I'm thinking that it probably was from the WC/FC since it does not carry the red cowling ring instituted on JG53 a/c at the beginning of the BoB. It still carried the unit Pikas insignia. If this wasn't Haase's a/c, who? I also note that a Lt. Gebhard Dittmar of the Gruppenstab was killed over England on 06.09.40. Do we know what his staff duty was, and what his start date in that position was? Can anyone provide further assistance with this one? Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |
