KG 54 loses in September 1939?

Hello to all,
I got from a veteran a foto, he made it in Polen on 16. September 1939.
There is a damaged He-111 R3 + KK (KR?) from KG 54 "Totenkopf".
Text: Polenfeldzug September 1939. Abgeschossener deutscher Bomber vor Groß Litowötl (???).
Does anyone know more details about this incidend?

With many regards

Miro

Hi there,
The location seems to be Brest Litovsk. I guess it's handwritten? They are always difficult to decipher.

Re: KG 54 loses in September 1939?

Miro,

This photo shows one of the most photographed German aircraft that was shot down during the Polish Campaign. It belonged to 2./KG54.

In the EoE LW loss DB we have this as:
15 September 1939: 2./KG54 Heinkel He111P-2. Returned damaged by AA fire during attack on troop concentrations east of Brześć, Poland, at 3.05 p.m. No crew casualties. Aircraft B3+KK 30% damaged but repairable.

This plane actually apparently force-landed in the area east of the target, and the plane was assessed as 30% damaged. It was later destroyed in place by fire and the front of the a/c was burned out. No crew is known for this loss and if anyone knows that or the W.Nr. I would greatly appreciate this information. We need to make some modifications to our loss listing.

Re: KG 54 loses in September 1939?

The BS was an Uffz Kümmel. He was wounded. No first name I'm afraid and no further info on the rest of the crew.

Regards,
Rudi.

Re: KG 54 loses in September 1939?

Hi,

there was another He 111P, which returned damaged by flak with Willy Kuemmel onboard. I have several Polish accounts concerning B3+KK but had had no time yet to translate it.

Regards

Robert

Re: KG 54 loses in September 1939?

Hello.

There was another crash of a He 111 from 2./KG54 on 10.09.1939 near Wielogora. BO Oberleutnant Eitner and BF Oberfeldwebel Börs killed. Does anyone know the fuselage code of the a/c and the full names of all the crew members?

Best regards,
Gunnar - Bf 110 -

Het Gunnar, scrolling trough THE volksbund database I came across an Ofw. Wilhelm Börs. KIA on 10.09.1939. According to THE VDK he is still buried at Wielgolas, Polen. Kind Regards. Dirk
