II/JG3 claims and Allied losses

In reading Prien's II/JG3 book I have some questions on some of the claims and losses:
16.9.43 2 Beaufighters claimed

23.11.43 3 Beaufighters claimed does anyone know the units I would guess they would be CC.

22.9.43 1-109 100% and 1-45% vs 1 P-47 claim
Foreman has the P-47 2 claims and 1 loss and 1 cat E does anyone know the P-47 unit? It looks like we might have a match here.

I have read Prien's I/JG 3 and JG 53 books and found them extremly good are there any plans to publish English translations of his other books on JGs?

Thanks in advance.

Re: II/JG3 claims and Allied losses

Hi James,

With regard to the Beaufighter losses I can add that both claims on 16th September match with the losses of Beaufighter LX974 and LX825 of 236 Squadron over the North Sea, 35 km West of Den Helder.

On 23rd November Beaufighter LZ172 and LZ412 of 254 Squadron and LX934 of 236 Squadron were lost to fighters over the North Sea, 5 km Northwest of the Isle of Texel. JM351 of 254 Squadron lost on the same operation fell victim to Flak on the attacked ships.

Regards,
Hans

Re: II/JG3 claims and Allied losses

The loss was Lt. Quentin Charlton of the 83rd Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group. Reported to have been seen losing fuel over Walcheren and bailed out 25 miles of Manston where he apparently drowned. Claims were made by two pilots of 352nd Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group: Capt. Charles J. Hoey claimed a Me 109 destroyed Southwest of Utrecht and Lt. Jesse W. Gonnam claimed a Me 109 destroyed near Schoonhaven. The crash-landed P-47 was from the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, pilot Lt. Conrad C. Ingold.

Re: II/JG3 claims and Allied losses

Thanks everyone this is just what I needed. I have some more losses from II/JG 3 to match up with USAAF claims

2 Oct 1943 2 shot down and 1-50%, I/JG 3 1-25% damaged P-47 claims 7-3-3

4 Dec 1943 3 shot down and 3 P-47 claims

Any one have any information on which FG may have got them? Thanks in advance.
