Haleiwa, 7 Dec. 41

Hello!

How many P-36As and P-40s were based at Haleiwa in the early hours of 7 December 1941?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Haleiwa, 7 Dec. 41

Most online sources give 8 x P-40 and 2 x P-36.

See e.g. http://www.ww2pacific.com/aaf41.html

Re: Haleiwa, 7 Dec. 41

Thanks.

However, according to your source there's something wrong.

Wheeler: 39 P-36s + 98 P-40s
Bellows: 2 P-40s
Haleiwa: 2 P-36s + 8 P-40s

ie: 41 P-36s + 108 P-40s

Grand total (according to your source):
- 39 P-36s
- 99 P-40s

Where do come the 2 P-36s and 9 P-40s that cannot be accounted for?
Or have they been counted twice?

Chris,

Didn't do any math on total numbers, just what's said about Haleiwa in most online sources.

I understand that the 47th PS had some fighters sent to Haleiwa on gunnery practice exercises only.

Hello,

from Joe Baugher's Lists.
Here are the serial numbers of the P-36's listed as "to Hawaii"

55;57;59;63;70;73;75;76;78;82;
83;86;90;92;93;98;102;108;109;110;
118;121;124;125;127;128;133;145;146;149;
152;160;161;167;168;169;171;176;179;205.
Total 50 a/c

And here the serial numbers of the P-36's taken from the Robert's Commission List of 14th December 41.

Re: Haleiwa, 7 Dec. 41

Hello,
I have not checked to see if the following is a match to my earlier post above.
However I found only minutes ago this info from my old files way back in 2010.

HALEIWA FIELD
47th PURSUIT SQUADRON (6 TOTAL)
Plane - Group - Number - SerialNumber - Status as of 12/8/41 - Pilot

P-36A 2 48 2 38-128 In Commission (BROWN)
P-40B 49 155 41-13317 In Commission (TAYLOR)
P-36A 50 157 38-160 In Commission (ROGERS)
P-40B 3 51 158 41-13318 Lost in Combat (DAINS)
P-40B 52 160 41-13325 In Commission (WELCH)
P-40B 53 161 41-13326 In Commission (KNEEN)

Sadly I have no idea from whome I got the info. All I know is that it is WheelerAircraft Serial Numbers (Compatability Mode) Microsoft Word .
But it seems to be the answer to your question.
All the very best
Alex

Yes, it certainly does answer my question.
But first I have to sort all this out.
Many thanks, Alex.
