![]() Gentlemen,
I can't find anything about what NJG-100 night fighter unit did during 1945. Nor can I find anything about kills claims at all. Joseph Putzkuhl had 26 night air kills by the middle of 1944. I don't know when he really got the German Cross in Gold. Putzkuhl had flown night fighters until the end of World War II. I wonder if he got some more night fighter kills in 1945 that was undocumented? Same thing goes for Hans Schmid who had 28 night air kills and a German Cross in Gold holder. Help please. Sincerely, Edward L. Hsiao |

Re: NJG-100 Claims in 1945
Dr. T. Boitens new volumes on the Nachtjagd will be covering NJG 100 and their operations on the Ost Front......very interesting including ground attack missions.

Re: NJG-100 Claims in 1945
Hi,
In 1945 N.J.G. 100 initially flew night fighter missions, and later undertook night ground-attack missions. Josef Pützkuhl flew only six missions in 1945, three night fighter and three night ground-attack. His 26th and final aerial victory was claimed on the night of 25/26 July 1944. Source for this information is his Flugbuch. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com |

![]() Gentlemen,
Thank you guys for the information so far. I didn't know Josef Putzkuhl had flown the Arado Ar 234 before. By the way, I could only find Paul Zorner's single night kill in 1945 while flying with NJG-100. Sincerely, Edward L. Hsiao |

Re: NJG-100 Claims in 1945
I have this from a Hans Rossbach signed cover
for those who can read German ( sorry I can't give an exact translation ). With my limited German Staffel Kapitan in NJG100 mostly on JU 88 not sure what the reference is to the FW189 in the East' July 1944 6 night victories ( 13 in four nights?) 26 night victories was recommend for Knights Cross after his 25th? Again this is according to the information on the cover, would really be interested in knowing if he had actually been recommended for the Knights Cross ! Cheers Bill |

Re: NJG-100 Claims in 1945
Hello
The activity of NJG 100 at the end of the war is partially summarized in the not so new Gebhard Aders "Geschichte der deutschen Nachtjagd" book. My translation is only approximative, the German used by Aders being a bit cumbersome... "In the last months of the war the I./NJG 100, II. and IV./NJG 5 had to handle a multifront war : by night against british and russian bombers, during the day against US and russian forward movements - mainly at the eastern front - and even as day destroyers against russian inflights. During the retreat some planes of the NJG 100 were pushed as far as Norway. The corresponding crews, with these located near Trondheim of the the NJ flight Norvegen were ordered to fly around Sweden to evacuate civilians and military personal from Kurland ! At the end of April 1945 the operations against the Russians were stopped, and the I./NJG 100 was transferred to Lübeck, and the II./NJG 100 was relocated near Linz and Hörsching. The 4th May orders came to move with 11 planes to Prague-Rusin. The day after, as the revolt in Prague started, the crews flyed to Satz, where all the planes except one were destroyed, and entered captivity under american hands. The last surviving plane of the II./NJG 100 was transfered to Lechfled the 8th May, with US markings." Regards Jean Schreiber |
