Colonel Georgi Gromov 515 IAP

Can anyone advise me of the total number of victories (personal and shared) that this pilot gained in WW2. Some sources claim 13 individual and 5 shared, 7 and 17 shared as well as 18 individual and 11 shared. His P40E with 20 GIAP is shown with 4 individual and 11 shared kill markings but according to the Osprey title "MiG-3 aces of WW2" he made 5 and 13 shared claims with 147 IAP. He served successively with 147 IAP (renamed 20 GIAP) and then 515 IAP. The figure 18 seems to be common and so I assume that his final tally is some combination of individual and shared - perhaps 5 individual and 13 shared in total? I also assume he did not add to his tally when leading 515 IAP?

He apparently brought down 3 Ju88 by "taran" attacks in 1941 in the Mig-3, a Ju88 on 26 April 1942 and shared 2 Bf109 on 29 April 1942 in a P40E and claimed a Bf109 on 24 September 1943 flying a P-39.

regards

Keith

Mikhail Bykov in his latest book Vse Acy Stalina 1936-1953 shows 408 missions, 63 air battles and 7 personal and 18 group victories. He shows three personal and eight shared victories in 1941.
