April 22, 1944 - JG 53 losses

Hello/Bonjour,

I would like to know if there were losses for II./JG 53 on April 22, 1944. The marshalling yard at Hamm, Germany was the target.

Best regards,
Frederic

I do not believe II./JG 53 made contact and there are no reported claims or losses

Hello Bill,

Thank you for the answer. I have heard that two fighters belonging to this unit collided in air and I wanted to check if this fact was true. Thus, the info was wrong.

All the best,
Frederic

Re: April 22, 1944 - JG 53 losses

On 22 April 1944, according to the Summary of Luftwaffe losses database, I./JG 53 lost one aircraft destroyed and one damaged, both "without enemy action on operational flight".

Is it possible that it was the collision you were told about ?

The database suggest another possibilities:
_ on 27 April 1944 II./JG 53 lost two aircraft destroyed without enemy action on non-operational flight, but they were not reported on the same day (one on 4 May and one on the 8th).

_ on 13 April 1944 II./JG 53 lost one aircraft destroyed and one damaged, both "without enemy action on operational flight". Both were reported on the 18th.

Re: April 22, 1944 - JG 53 losses

Hello Laurent,

According to what I heard, one of the fighter was just slightly damaged and belly landed in a field, pilot unhurt. Details for the other one are not known to me. Perhaps these planes belonging to I./JG 53, in any case the data are consistent.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I/JG53 was either in northern Italy or Rumania at this point.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. So, the I./JG 53 don't match because this accident occured over Germany.

Best regards,
Frederic
