Me 262 B-1a 110639 found at Schleswig

Gentlemen,

Dan O'Connell in Me 262 Production Log (2005), pp. 99 - 100, wrote:

"110639 Call sign GM+UK. Me 262 B-1a.
...It was found and captured at Schleswig and sent to Lechfeld during 'Operation Lusty', and named '639' and 'Vera' by the 54th Air Disarmament Squadron..."

David E. Brown also wrote online in September 2010 on the Warbird Information Exchange "Me 262 arrives":

"Messerschmitt Me 262 B-1a, WNr.110639 'White 35' of III./EJG. 2

... The jet was captured at Schleswig suggesting that it may have been a training aircraft for pilots of NJG 11 converting to the dual-seat Me 262 B-1a/U1 night fighter. After capture it was sent to the Americans at Lechfeld, being named '639' and 'Vera' by the 54th Air Disarmament Squadron..."

I have two questions:

1. On what date was 110639 flown from Schleswig to Lechfeld?

2. Who was the pilot?

Thank you in advance,

Jim Geens

Re: Me 262 B-1a 110639 found at Schleswig

From ULTRA on 3 April 1945:

CX/MSS/R523(A),11
Communication dated 3/4:
Aircraft Search Report:
Where are:
EFDUZ ((Me 262)), W.Nr. 110726, which took off on TAWOJ ((28/3)) from Staaken to Lechfeld and ((Me 262)), W.Nr. 110639 which took off from Staaken on ((28/3)) for Lechfeld, with intermediate landings at Burg bei Magdeburg and Erfurt-Bindersleben?
Report whereabouts to (Roman) I (Centre) A/c Ferrying Geschwader 1.
NOTE: The above is believed to be to Luftgau VII from Luftflotte Reich.

Re: Me 262 B-1a 110639 found at Schleswig

Thank you, Nick. I would point out that the DLH facilities at Staaken were then being used to convert Me 262s for night flying for 10./NJG11 and the first intermediate landing was to be Burg bei Magdeburg which was the base for 10./NJG11 until 12 April 1945. So Mr. Brown may be correct in his assumption.

Jim
