Re: Fw. Maximilian Buchberger

All,

There is a possibility for this Fw Buchberger.

An Uffz Buchberger (no first name given) made a claim with 5./ZG1 on 19.04.44. Around 28.07.44 5./ZG1 became 10./JG76 and now a Fw, he made two more claims on 03.10.44 and 20.10.44. Around 25.10.44 10./JG76 became 14./JG 53 and from there on I have no more information on this pilot. Is it possible that this is the pilot shot down on 23.04.45? Having been promoted to Fw mid 1944, it is likely that he was still a Fw in 1945. Also, I note in the original post that the pilot status after the crash is not stated. Was he killed, wounded or lucky enough to walk away. If he was unhurt he probably isn’t listed in any loss lists, thus likely survived the war. IV./JG53 was disbanded late in the war and he may have been transferred to another Staffel of JG53. Did JG53 suffer any losses on this date and was this unit operating in the area of this crash site?

In general, does anyone have information on this Buchberger with JG53 in 1945?

This doesn’t answer the original question but it may be a lead to finding the answer.

Regards,

Craig…

Re: Fw. Maximilian Buchberger

Hi Klaus,

There is another post just 2 weeks old here in TOCH about Max Buchberger.
There was one in Luftarchiv.de where it was posted that Buchberger was killed near Dorndiel.
i think we turn in circle now and would be really interested which source you have as you wrote that the info came from a friend. Probably you found it in the other forum?
Thanks for clarifying
Rolfeb

Thanks Rolf - some made the Work and some copy that - and wrong too.

23 April 1945 ? near Dorndiel in the area of Groß Umstad (t)

As is know, Buchberger was shot down 23. March 1945 like his comrad Bruno Hartmann, between Groß-Umstadt and Groß-Ostheim and was buried in Dorndiel until 1947.

Re: Fw. Maximilian Buchberger

Peglar,

Thanks for the info - it fits neatly into what I had and solves what was a mystery to me.

I take it that since you posted the aircraft detail for the loss of 20 Oct 44 and not for 23 March 1945, that this information was lost in the chaos of the last months of the war or yet to be found.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Craig...
