4/JG54, 07.08.1940
7th August 1940:
The following aircraft of 4/JG54 were destroyed or damaged in an RAF bombing attack on Haamstede A/F, Netherlands. Messerschmitt Bf109E. Aircraft a write-off. Messerschmitt Bf109E. Aircraft 70% damaged. Messerschmitt Bf109E. Aircraft 30% damaged. Messerschmitt Bf109E. Aircraft 30% damaged. Messerschmitt Bf109E. Aircraft 30% damaged. Messerschmitt Bf109E. Aircraft 30% damaged. Attack on Haamstede A/F, was carried out by RAF Blenheims. This raid also killed 3 Pilots and wounded 3 more of JG54. Bf109`s apparently caught just taking off? Can anyone add any more details of this attack and the names of the Pilot casualties? |

4./JG54 Two Messerschmitt Bf 109Es. Destroyed in bombing attack on Haamstede aerodrome by No.82 Squadron Blenheim (P/O Wellings) 7.12 p.m. FF Oberfw Max Stotz and FF Uffz Hans Schätzel both slightly wounded – admitted to hospital in Bergen-op-Zoom. Aircraft 100% and 70% damaged – both write-offs.
Mechanic Uffz Willi Schulze was killed and Obergefr Arthur Schulz slightly wounded by bomb splinters in this attack. 4./JG54 Six Messerschmitt Bf 109Es. Damaged in RAF bombing attack on Haamstede aerodrome by No.82 Squadron Blenheim (P/O Wellings) 7.12 p.m. No aircrew casualties. Aircraft 40%, 30%, 30%, 30%, 30%, and 10% damaged – but all repairable. |
