air raid on Ijmuiden

Hi,

Does anyone have details of a raid on Ijmuiden in which a number of E-boats were sunk or damaged on 11 November 1943.

This is part of some research I am doing for a work mate. His grandmothers brother was on board HM Trawler William Stephen when it was sunk during a convoy battle off Cromer on 25 October 1943. I have been able to find out that it was sunk by E-boat S74. This E-boat was then sunk during the air raid on 11 November.

Just trying to tie up a few loose ends.

Regards,

Alex

Re: air raid on Ijmuiden

Dear Alex,

I've filed all air raids on IJmuiden and as far as I know, there was no air raid on IJmuiden on 11th November 1943.

Also, nothing at all mentioned in the Kriegstagebuch des Marinebefehlshabers in den Niederlanden (Naval War Diary of Admiral Commanding The Netherlands) on this date.
Where does the info about this date come from?

Apart from that S74 was lost earlier that year. See this link:

Re: air raid on Ijmuiden

Hi Hans,

I am doing some research for a friend at work. His grandmothers brother was on board the trawler William Stephen when it was topedoed and sunk on 23 October 1943 during a convoy battle off Cromer.

I asked a question on another discussion board if anyone knew who had sunk the trawler. The answer I received was E-boat S74 of the 6th Flotilla based at Ijmuiden under the command of Kapitan Leutnant Witts. The same person also told me that the S74 was sunk during an air raid on 11th November 1943.

As a follow up to my research I am trying to find out how what Squadron attacked the S74. I will now go back and ask some more questions.

Regards,

Alex
