Gentile of 4 FG vs. FW 190s, January 44 - when, where?

Some time in January 1944 Don Gentile of 4 FG had a close call with a pair of FW 190s - the uneven duel is described in the book about 4 FG called "1000 Destroyed". Unfortunately, it doesn't say when and where it took place. And who were the attackers. Any info?

Have you tried here:

http://wademeyersart.tripod.com/id40.html

Don Caldwell writes in volume 2 of his JG 26 diary that I. and II./JG 26 lost 3 Fw 190s to the 4th FG on 14 January 1944.
