III./Kampfgeschwader 27 in the Mediterranean?

Hi,

Is there any data about the actions of III/KG 27 Boelke in Mediterranean theater of operation in October 1944?

I've a WP of ObLt Henkel (7./KG27) who was MIA in oct 1944, and according to WW2.dk list of Officers it was shot down near Crete

In his WP the list of operation register "Operations against USSR and Mediterranean"

Thanks in advance

Yes exactly; is there any data about the actions led by the III/KG 27 in the Mediterranean during October 1944?

I cannot find info about the unit service in the mediterranean.

Thanks!

Re: III./Kampfgeschwader 27 in the Mediterranean?

Great, thank you.

You wrote that they carried back troops from greek islands: is was a bomber unit not a transport.. according to you how is this possible?
They flew with different transport planes due to the critical front situation?

Re: III./Kampfgeschwader 27 in the Mediterranean?

Heinkels were used as transports on several occasions in the later war years, before the identification of specific Transport Geschwader. Clearly their semi-civil origins helped. Any convenient unit would be used.

Joda87,

You might also check Chronik Kampfgeschwader Nr. 27 Boelcke Band VI, Teil 5: 01.01.1944 - 31.12.1944
