Re: Do 215 loss On 2-7-1940

Indeed I do.

Do215 (0040) G2+EH of 4./AufKlGrObdL failed to return from a reconnaissance sortie to Leeds, Hull, and Billingham, its last radio message coming from north-west of the west Fresian Islands at around 52 N 4 E. Crew was: Beo: Oberfw Heinz FRIEDRICH, Ff: Fw Helmuth APITZ, Bf: Uffz Walter NEIGE, & Bm: Gefr Herbert HABEL all missing.

It was engaged 80 miles off Withernsea by Red Section of No.611 Squadron (R1 F/L W.J. LEATHER, R2 P/O J.R.G. SUTTON, & R3 P/O J.W. LUND) at 9.15 a.m. When last seen both engines were pouring smoke, the British pilots breaking off to avoid petrol shortage.

Hi Peter

May I sneak in under the guise of 'Brian' and ask you another, before you shelve your files on AufklGrObdL? On 1 July, two Do215 FTR from ops, one falling to 616 Squadron at 1050, the other to 64/145 Squadrons between 1852-1955. Are you able to provide similar details, please?

See you soon

Brian

Brian,

See separate thread. Sorry I was off my desk yesterday attending the funeral of Alan Brown - one of nature's gentlemen, and an avid researcher from the halcyon days of aviation archaeology in this country & abroad.

Thanks Peter.

Sorry to learn about the passing of your friend - a name I didn't know.

Peter,
Currently updating my Broken Eagles books and was thus interested to see you reply to Brian Bines re. Do.215 G2+EH. Would be interested to learn of your source and where I might obtain a copy - if you are willing to divulge. Bill Norman
