Kampfgruppe He111 19/8/42

IX.Fliegerkorps formed this unit from training Gruppen on 19th August 1942 in response to the Allied landing at Dieppe.

As far as I can see in France on date the only He111 training units were IV(Erg)./KG4 (based Avord?) and IV(Erg)./KG53 (based at Bourges?).

Can anyone confirm know if I'm correct with this?

Regards,

Steve

Steve

Not very good at obscure Luftwaffe units....
The only "thing" which I can locate (in Rosch book) is something called Kampfstaffel He 111.
According to Barry it was formed in Feb 1942, had no disband date and perhaps not too surprisingly used
He 111

Not sure if these two units are supposed to be one and the same or two different ones.

Sorry
Stig

Re: Kampfgruppe He111 19/8/42

Thanks, I think was an adhoc unit formed during the morning of the 19th in response to the Allied landings at Dieppe.

IX.Fliegerkorps refer to it as Kampfgruppe He111/Einsatz-Kampfgruppe He111. Which is why I assume it was formed from elements of the various He111 IV.Gruppen in France.

Regards,

Steve

Re: Kampfgruppe He111 19/8/42

On19.08.1942 the IV-Gruppen of six Kampfgeschwaders was under the command of Generalkdo. IX. Fliegerkorps in France:
IV./KG 2 at Melun-Villaroche with Do 217.
IV./KG 3 at Chievres with Ju 88.
IV./KG 4 at Avord with He 111.
IV./KG 6 at Bretigny with Ju 88.
IV./KG 55 at Dijon-Longvic with He 111.
IV/KG 77 at Bourges with Ju 88.

The so-called Kampfgruppe He 111 must have been drawn from one or both of
the He 111 - gruppen.

Steve

Come to think of it, you mentioned also a Kampfgruppe Ju 88 and it seems fair to believe that ad-hoc unit was
created from the Ju 88 Erg Gruppen listed by Björn.

Cheers
Stig

In the IX.Fliegerkorps their mission is listed separately, so they don't appear to have been part of the Kampfgruppe.

IV.(Erg)/KG4 also lost one (90% damage) during operations.
