Cable cutter Mustangs

Almost fifty years ago the Suez Crisis kicked off when Mustangs of the Israeli air force used steel cables as well as their wingtips and propeller to cut Egyption communication lines.

Are any photos known of Mustangs with the cable cutting equipment installed?

Also does anybody have a clue what these communication lines looked like? Just simple telegraph poles?

Hi Skyraider ... gnome from Key (Flypast) forum here. I recommend you pm "Swiss Mustangs" on that forum. He has a wealth of Mustang data and photos etc. Very much the man with The Knowledge. cheers Don

Re: Cable cutter Mustangs

Cheers mate. Martin is already on a few "quests" for me (incl. a Mustang/C-36 encounter), but I reckon he's rather busy as I hardly ever hear from him

I have just bought Brian Cull's excellent Wings Over Suez and will try to get into touch with the Israeli co-author, who hopefully will be able to bring me in contact with the pilots.

This information I need for an aviation artwork, by the way. Since the 50th anniversary has already come and gone, I'm not in an extreme hurry. First I need to crank out some Corsair artwork, which is long overdue!
