Bf 110 Loss Brest 8 Oct 43

A Bf 110 G-2 of 6./ZG 1 was shot down by 66 Sqn and crashed near Le Tauo on the above date-can anyone tell me where this location is near Brest? Could it be Le Faou?

Re: Bf 110 Loss Brest 8 Oct 43

Salut Chris

there is a lieu dit "la Tour" between Guilers and Saint Renan.

Knowing that Matti's info is "west of Brest", it would make sense, it matches.

Cheers & bonne soirée
Gilles

Thanks Gilles. Baker’s combat report says east of Brest at what now appears to be La Faou while VDK says La Taou. I would find it hard for an RAF pilot to identify the crash site as a very small hamlet

Re: Bf 110 Loss Brest 8 Oct 43

Hi Chris

upon checking (Matti's info), I realize that this day was a bloodbath for ZG1 : no less than 9 A/C lost that day around Brest !

I can see losses at :
Fl.Pl. Brest-Süd, Westlich Brest, Bucht von Poulmic, Nördlich Le Vaon bei Brest (another orthograph) and Westlich Brest.
Name it you get it.

Which one was Baker's one ?...

bonne journée

Gilles

I have 11 shot down or destroyed in crash-landings. Ogefr Gerhard Kunde, BF to Lt Hans Schwidtal was reported to have been killed at "Le Taou". Yes it was a bloodbath or as a 66 Sqn contact told me "A Turkey Shoot"-they lost aircraft in 3 missions this day against 453 Sqn, then 610 Sqn and finally 66 Sqn

Re: Bf 110 Loss Brest 8 Oct 43

I will send you my draft article. 453 Sqn made their claims first thing in the morning. 610 Sqn then went out looking for Flt Lt Russell Ewins of 453 Sqn who had ditched in the morning while 66 Sqn made their claims that evening supporting the bombing raid on Lanveouc-Poulmic
