Hauptmann Manfred Götze and Oberleutnant Norbert Schmitt of SG 10

Hello

I hope that everyone is doing fine and enjoying good health. Would anyone have some additional information on this incidents in which these two notable pilots of SG 10 were lost in the closing months of the war in Hungary?

Hauptmann Manfred Götze (16 victories, RK), Staffelkapitän of 8./SG 10, shot down and killed by Flak near Pápa on 4 January 1945

Oberleutnant Norbert Schmitt (12 victories, RK), Staffelkapitän of 3./SG 10, shot down and killed in aerial combat with USAAF P-51 fighters in the Karmacs area on 26 March 1945

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Hauptmann Manfred Götze and Oberleutnant Norbert Schmitt of SG 10

John. The 52FG (P-51s) shot down 4 190s "east of Papa" on the 26th; they had been escorting Fifteenth AF B-24s to Bruck rail yards Austria. There were 8 190s painted " dark green, some with a dull yellow tail, painted like ours, with yellow stripes on the wings and a yellow spinner". They sound like ground-attack 190s (SG 10 ?). The 52nd pilots reported 4 of them were strafing the rail lines presumably in Russian hands.

Nick
