JG 26 Losses 9 May 42

1./JG 26 lost Uffz Herbert Hofmann north of Cassel (Don Caldwell says Reitwald) and 4./JG 26 lost Lt Heinz Reiche near Watten. Latter was witnessed by Sgt Shepperd of 118 Sqn who landed near Audricq (almost definitely shot down by Lt Artur Beese of 1./JG 26). I cannot find burial records for both nor can I find Reitwald. Does anyone have more accurate locations? As to who shot them down, strangely Fighter Command under claimed this day!

Hi Chris,

Uffz. Hofmann was killed at Riet Veld and was initially buried at Wizernes (near St.Omer).

Lt. Reiche was killed at Eperlecques and was initially buried at Abbevile.

Best regards

Luc

Thanks Luc that now makes sense. Probably the BMW 801 at the Blockhaus is Reiche's....
